ITA: La Lapponia finlandese in inverno è un’esperienza unica e il fascino di queste terre si mostra al meglio. Marzo è un mese ideale per visitarla, le giornate sono più lunghe, le temperature sono fredde, ma non insostenibili, e soprattutto ci sono ottime probabilità di ammirare l’Aurora Boreale, una delle migliori ragioni per pianificare un viaggio da queste parti… ma non la sola!
La nostra permanenza qui è durata 5 giorni, abbiamo visitato due località diverse, a poca distanza una dall’altra: Kemi e Rovaniemi.

ENG: Finnish Lapland in winter is a unique experience and that’s the most fascinating time of the year. March is ideal for a visit, days are longer, temperatures are quite cold but not unbearable and, most important thing, you will have a good chance to see the Northern Lights, one of the best reasons to plan a trip there… but not the only one!
We stayed here for 5 days, visiting two different places, close to each other: Kemi and Rovaniemi.

ITA: Rovaniemi è il centro più importante della zona, dove si trova anche l’aeroporto. E’ una piccola oasi cittadina in mezzo alla natura incontaminata, un paesaggio che sembra uscito da un racconto di Natale… non a caso è anche la città di Babbo Natale!
Abbiamo soggiornato in due strutture diverse, per goderci al meglio le diverse sfaccettature di questo posto: le prime due notti siamo stati all’Arctic Ligh Hotel, una struttura eccellente che ha vinto il premio per il migliore Hotel in Finlandia. La sua posizione è strategica, si trova infatti nel pieno centro, vicino alla piazza principale, Lordi Square. Ci è stata data una stanza meravigliosa e grande, con un bellissimo soggiorno, dotata di ogni comfort.
Degno di nota il ristorante dell’hotel, dove abbiamo gustato una deliziosa cena a base di sapori tipici.

ENG: Rovaniemi is the most important town of the region, there’s also the airport here. It’s a little oasis in the middle of an unspoiled nature, a landscape that looks like straight out of a Christmas tale… not without reason that’s Santa Claus’ hometown!
We slept into two different hotels, to better enjoy the different facets of this place: the first nights we’ve been guest of the  Arctic Light Hotel, which is an excellent hotel that won the prize for the best hotel in Finland. The position is strategic, it is infact in the city center, near the principal square, Lordi’s square. They gave us a beautiful and big room, with the living area, equipped with all the comforts.
Worth mentioning the restaurant, where we had a lovely dinner based on typical flavours.

ITA: La seconda struttura in cui abbiamo pernottato ci ha dato modo di vivere la Rovaniemi più selvaggia.
Siamo stati ospiti dell’Arctic Circle Wilderness Lodge, un villaggio nascosto in una radura a circa 20 minuti dalla città, circondati da alberi, nel silenzio totale. Le camere sono dei piccoli cubotti in legno, dotati di ampie finestre da cui filtra una luce meravigliosa… il modo perfetto per vivere le terre del nord.

ENG: The second hotel where we slept gave us the opportunity to live the most sauvage Rovaniemi.
We’ve been guest of the Arctic Circle Wilderness Lodge, a little village hidden in a glade 20 minutes from the city, surrounded by trees, in complete silence. The rooms are small wooden cubes, with big windows that lets a beautiful light inside… perfect way to live northern countries.

ITA: Nell’area di Rovaniemi è possibile dedicarsi a tantissime attività diverse… noi ne abbiamo provate un pò!
Insieme ad Aurora Emotion abbiamo fatto un tour in motoslitta elettrica! Questo particolare tipo di veicolo è unico al mondo ed estremamente rispettoso dell’ambiente, non inquina e non fa rumore, in modo da potersi godere al meglio la natura e il suo silenzio. Il giro dura due ore più o meno ed è prevista una sosta tè… ovviamente più che gradita!

ENG: In the area of Rovaniemi it is possible to participare in a lot of activities… we tried a few!
Together with Aurora Emotion we had an electric snowmobile tour! This particular type of sled is unique in the world and extremely respectful of environment, it doesn’t pollute and makes no sound, so that you can enjoy the nature and his silence at the best. The tour takes about two hours and you will stop for a tea stop… which is of course great!

ITA: In Finlandia è quasi sempre tutto bianco, di conseguenza gli abitanti sono esperti nel costruire con la neve. a Rovaniemi è possibile dormire in un albergo di neve o in un igloo, sposarsi in una cappella fatta di neve, costruire un igloo con una guida esperta (e dormirci!), pranzare in un ristorante di neve, bersi un drink in un ice bar e giocare in castelli di neve con scivoli… sembra una favola, ma è tutto reale!

ENG: Locals and visitors alike are keen to make the most out of the snow as soon as it covers the ground. When permanent snow arrives in late November or December, and there’s enough of it for winter activities, Rovaniemi becomes a vast white playground. You can sleep into a snow hotel or maybe into an igloo, you can marry into an ice-chapel or you can have lunch into a snow restaurant and, why not, having a drink at the ice bar… it looks like a tale, but it’s actually real!

ITA: Un’attività  che non vedevo l’ora di fare era il giro in slitta trainati dagli huskies! E’ stata un’esperienza esaltante, i cani adorano correre e adorano muoversi ed è incredibile vederli così felici in quello che è il loro ambiente naturale!
Guidare la slitta non è semplicissimo, il rischio di caduta è sempre dietro l’angolo (e ad alcune persone del nostro gruppo è successo) ma la sensazione di libertà è impagabile: percorrere le pianure innevate è un sogno ad occhi aperti!

ENG: Something I couldn’t wait to do was the sled safari with the Huskies! It was such a crazy experience, the dogs really love to run and move around and it’s incredible to see them so happy in their natural environment!
Driving the sled is not so easy, the risk of falling down is around the corner everytime (and some people in our group fell) but the feeling of freedom you get is something priceless: driving through the  snowy valley is a daydream!

ITA: Secondo il folclore dei Sami le aurore sono causate da una volpe che corre sulle alture della Lapponia e che frusta la neve con la sua coda facendola sollevare e lanciando scintille verso il cielo settentrionale. Le scintille formano un arco di fuoco, dai diversi colori, che illumina il paesaggio buio. Il nome finnico dell’aurora boreale, “revontulet”, vale a dire “fuoco della volpe”, deriva proprio da questo mito.
Vedere l’Aurora Boreale è stata una delle esperienze più incredibili della mia vita, Beyond Arctic è il servizio a cui ci siamo affidati: bravi, professionali e simpaticissimi ci hanno portato quasi al confine con la Svezia per ammirare questo spettacolo.

ENG: According to Sámi folklore, the Auroras are caused by a fox running over the fells of Lapland, whipping up snow with its tail and sending sparks up the northern sky. The sparks form a colourful arc of fire that lights up the dark landscape. The Finnish name for the Northern Lights, “revontulet”, meaning “fox fire”, derives from this myth.
Seeing the Northern Lights has been one of the most incredible experiences of my life, we entrusted Beyond Arctic: professionals and super nice they brought us almost at the border with Sweden to watch this incredible sky.
