Ospitale, vivissima e colorata… scopriamola insieme!
Hospitable, lively and colorful… let’s discover the city together!
ENG: I’ve been wanting to visit Porto for a long time, fascinated by all the pictures I saw around the web. Entrenched upon the side of a huge hill facing the Douro river the city divides in two main parts: the high side and the lower one. It’s quite seducing and lively, and this is the reason why she quickly became one of the most popular destinations of the West Europe. Her historical and cultural heritage is very big, offering interesting tourist attractions and animated night life. Her morfology is a collection of sloping and narrow undiscovered streets which make the city unique, enhancing his beauty even more.
My partners during this travel have been the Sorel boots, together with me even in the rainy days, letting me enjoy the city while being comfy!
ENG: One of the first things we have seen is the huge Dom Luis I bridge, connecting the two banks of the city. The superior deck is used for the Porto’s subway, the lower one is for cars and pedestrians. The view you can get crossing it it’s really awesome.
ENG: Igreja do Carmo e Igreja dos Carmelitas are two of the most beautiful churches of the city, built in late baroque style and characterised by the typical Azulejos, the portoguese tiles, making them quite particular. Funny fact? The two churches are separated by a very narrow (1m wide) house that was built so that the two churches would not share a common wall and to prevent any relations between the nuns of Igreja dos Carmelitas and the monks of Igreja do Carmo.
ENG: Going into the winding streets you can happen to see the wall of Steak N Shake, an american diner restaurant which became a symbol of the city thanks to the facade, which is made by tiles of the artist Joana Vasconcelos… a modern re-telling of the ancient style prevailing in the city.
ENG: For lunch you have to stop at De Dgema, cozy hamburger restaurant that will conquer you with the funny furnishment and for the wide choice and the really convenient price.
Do we want to talk about those chandeliers? It’s not everyday that you can eat with a cute monster watching you!
ENG: The church of Saint Ildefonso is located in the central part of Porto, strongly towering at the top of a narrow staircase. The beaytiful facade, decorated by the classic tiles, shows slices of life of the Saint.
ENG: It’s not everyday that you can find yourself in front of such beautiful railway stations like the Sao Bento one, which is actually a jewel of history and architecture, and where the sense of time has been suspended. You will be astonished by the wide and elegant entry and even more by the gorgeous floors.
ENG: Sé Do Porto, the Cathedral of the city. It has undergone various alterations over the centuries, the most important additions being the Gothic rose window and cloister and the 18th century high altar retable and the rococo doorway. On the south side there’s an elegant cloister, with beautiful portoguese azulejos from XVIII century. It is possible to go up on the top, to enjoy a better view.
ENG: Finally the ocean! This suggestive church is located in a unique way, the waves hit the rocks surrounding it, making the image quite pictoresque. We are at the Miramar Chapel, and here I soaked in several liters of water… just to take an amazing picture <3
