A trip to Kuala Lumpur, between tradition and modernity.

ITA: Sono da poco tornata da uno splendido viaggio in Malesia, ospite di Malaysia.travel .  Ecco le mie impressioni!
Kuala Lumpur è una città che ha saputo sorprendermi.
E’ una metropoli, come tale grande, moderna e ricca di opportunità e locali che seguono le ultime tendenze, non manca però il suo cuore più antico e tradizionale, quello dei mercati e dei quartieri pittoreschi, dove è possibile percepire i veri suoni, i colori e gli odori, che si mischiano tra di loro.
Per  quanto riguarda gli alloggi noi abbiamo soggiornato in due Hotel differenti: allo Sheraton Imperial e al Pullman Kuala Lumpur City Centre Hotel And Residences. In entrambi ci siamo trovati benissimo: posizione comoda, stanze enormi e servizio impeccabile.

In questa mini guida vi svelo quelli che sono stati i miei posti preferiti, che non potete assolutamente perdervi… ma prima qualche info pratica!

ENG: Kuala Lumpur is a city that really surprised me.
It’s a metropolis, as such is very big, modern and full of opportunities and restaurants and cafes following the latest trends. Yet Kuala Lumpur includes her oldest and traditional heart, the one of markets and picturesque districts, where it’s possible to perceive the real sounds, the colors and the smells, mixing each other.
Regarding the hotels we staied in two different places: Sheraton Imperial and  Pullman Kuala Lumpur City Centre Hotel And Residences. Both of them were a great experience: good position, big rooms, impeccable staff.

In this mini guide I will tell you my favorite spots, that you can not miss… but first some useful information!

 

 

ITA: I’m back from a gorgeous trip to Malaysia, guest of Malaysia.travel. Here my impressions!
Qualche info utile prima di partire è assolutamente doverosa.
Per prima cosa Kuala è una città estremamente umida, con un clima molto variabile che potrebbe mettervi a dura prova, per questo motivo è indispensabile portare sempre con sè una borraccia, in modo che possiate idratarvi quando la temperatura si farà sentire.
Come dicevo prima, inoltre, il clima tropicale è molto variabile, per questo si passa facilmente da giornate soleggiate a raffiche di vento e improvvisi scrosci di pioggia…è consigliabile un abbigliamento impermeabile e traspirante, scarpe resistenti all’acqua.
Per muoverci in città abbiamo utilizzato GrabApp, l’Uber asiatico: io ne sono stata entusiasta! Costi bassissimi e attese brevi. E’ importante però precisare che per attivarlo serve una SIM locale (potete farla in aeroporto, con 6E io ho sottoscritto un piano settimanale di 5Giga, non servono documenti particolari) e che si paga in contanti al driver.

ENG: Some useful information before leaving is absolutely essential.
First thing Kuala is an extremely humid city, the weather is quite variable and it could really stress you out, for this reason it’s necessary to always bring with you a flask, so that you can stay hydrated when the heat will make you thirsty.
As I told you before the tropical weather is quite variable, easily switching between sunny days and gusts of wind or sudden rain showers… better to choose  a waterproof and breathable clothing, water resistant shoes.
To move around the city we used GrabApp, the asian Uber: I’ve been thrilled! Super cheap and short hold ups. It’s however  important to specify that to activate it you need a local SIM card (you can do it at the airport, 6Euros and I subscribed to a weekly 5 gigas plan, no particular documents) and you need to pay cash to the driver.
So now you’re ready to explore!

 

ITA: Il primo e più famoso spot della città sono sicuramente le Batu Caves.

Si tratta di un luogo dal fascino unico e dalla spiritualità magica, delle imponenti grotte calcaree che ospitano al loro interno alcuni templi induisti, il tutto reso ancor più spettacolare dalla lunghissima scalinata colorata, diventata ormai un simbolo.

Vi consiglio di partire presto e approfittare delle prime luci del giorno, altrimenti potrebbero diventare impraticabili ed estremamente trafficate, dal centro città calcolate più o meno 20 minuti di auto per raggiungerle.
Alle donne è richiesto di indossare abiti lunghi.

ENG: The first and most famous spot of the city are for sure the Batu Caves.
It’s a fascinating and magical place, full of spirituality: impressive limestone caves that lodge inside them some hindu temples, all of that enhanced by the extremely long and colorful staircase, which has now became a symbol.
I totally recommend to leave early and take advantage of the first lights of the day, otherwise it could be impracticable and very crowded. From the city center please estimate 20 minutes by car, more or less.
Woman need to wear long clothes.

 

 

 

 

ITA: Il Tempio cinese Thean Hou è una bellissima struttura di recente costruzione (anni ’80) perfettamente contestualizzata in una sorta di oasi di pace.
Ammirare i dettagli che lo abbelliscono con il sottofondo delle tradizionali cerimonie è stata un’esperienza molto rilassante, al tempo stesso dai piani superiori si può godere di una splendida vista panoramica sulla città  e sul suo skyline.

ENG: The chinese temple Thean Hou is a beautiful building which has been recently constructed (80’s) but perfectly contextualized in a sort of peace oasis.
Admiring the lovely details that embellish the walls with the soundtrack of traditional ceremonies has been a very relaxing experience, and at the same time, from the upper floors, you can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view on the city and her skyline.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ITA: Se siete in cerca dell’aspetto più folcloristico e tipico Bukit Bintang è il posto che fa per voi!
Qui troverete la street art più fantasiosa e colorata, che fa capolino sulle facciate dei palazzi vecchio stile, in un trionfo di allegria. Di notte il quartiere si trasforma, diventando il centro della movida, ma soprattutto della cultura legata al cibo: immancabile il mercato di Jalan Alor, ideale per gustare prelibatezze locali e street food.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ENG: If you are looking for the most folkloristic and typical aspect Bukit Bintang is the place to be!
Here you will find the most fantastic and colorful street art, peering out over the facades of the old style  blocks, in a triumph of happiness.
At night the district completely changes, becoming the center of nightlife, but especially of the food culture: the market of Jalan Alor is unmissable, ideal to try local delicacies and street food.

 

 

 

 

ITA: Altro luogo da non tralasciare è la splendida Moschea Wilayah, un capolavoro di architettura, una struttura che vi lascerà senza fiato.
Per visitarla è obbligatorio seguire il Tour Guidato, che è comunque gratuito (noi siamo stati accompagnati dalla bravissima Rose). Consiglio di considerare almeno un’ora per tutta l’esperienza.

ENG: Another place that you can not miss is the beautiful Wilayah Mosque, a masterpiece of architecture that will leave you speechless.
To visit it it is mandatory to join a guided tour, which is free of charge (we’ve been guided by the lovely Rose). I recommend to consider at least one hour for the entire experience.

 

 

 

 

 

ITA: Concludiamo con il simbolo più famoso della città, le Petronas Tower. E’ possibile salire (pagando un biglietto che è meglio prenotare online)e godersi una meravigliosa visuale, oppure ammirarle dal basso, lasciandovi impressionare dalla loro grandezza.
Se volete immortalarle assicuratevi di arrivare la mattina presto… molto presto… all’alba! (e c’erano comunque già 4 persone.)

ENG: We conclude with the most famous symbol of the city, the Petronas Towers. It is possible to go up (with an entrance ticket that is better to book online) and enjoy a crazy view, or maybe standing from below, letting yourself be impressed by their majesty.
If you want to take a shot be sure to arrive early in the morning… very early… at dawn! (and still  there were 4 people.)
