Today we will discover together some hidden corners of the city.
Insieme a Love Great Britain e al Department of International Trade ho finalmente sperimentato una città diversa, totalmente nuova … inaspettata.
ENG: During the past week I’ve had the chznce to discover London under a new light: places I didn’t know, corners I did not believe could exist. Together with Love Great Britain and Department of International Trade I’ve finally experienced a different city, totally new and … unexpected.
I think I knew what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised, that’s why I want to share with you some of the locations I preferred, and which you absolutely have to see.
DESIGN MUSEUM
ENG: In the heart of the elegant district of Kensington The Museum Of Design finds its place, that’s the biggest space in the world dedicated to creativity and one of the most important contemporary museums about design and architecture.
The initial impact will be quite strong: the beautiful copper rooftop has a cement ceiling with a twist… a real architectural gem, a piece of art inside the piece of art.
Entrance is free, you will find several exhibitions or you can just enjoy the massive and breathtaking building.
SOHO – TATTOO SHOP
ENG: Now we move in the folkloric and colorful district of Soho, the alternative area of London, among a multitude of styles and cultures. Cosmopolitan, rebel, funny, eclectic, trendy: here the ingredients of this unique place in the world. Between the XIX and the XX century the area became popular for great artists, actors, musicians, giving to Soho that bohémien touch that you can still feel.
Going through the narrow streets with the guys of Underground, whose store is near, we have been guided to the Diamond Jacks Tattoo, the longest running tattoo parlour in London’s West End… the entrance perfectly reflects the soul of Soho, can’t miss it.
KEW GARDENS
ENG: Away from the noise and the traffic of the london metropolis there’s a little piece of heaven, an enchanted place, out of this world, a group of gardens, greenhouses, botanical gardens, pagodas.. the Kew Gardens. Located in the south part of the city, in the Richmond district, they have been declared UNESCO world heritage site. They take with them a very important inheritance: their modern history began when Enrico VII decided to move his court to Richmond Palace for the summer months, then the near village of Kew started to grow. From 1840 the Kew Gardens park has been opened up to the public, without any doubt it’s the most extraordinary garden in london.
Visiting these gardens could take a whole day, so you better equip with a pic-nic basket and enjoy your lunch in the shade of the green trees.
Don’t forget to visit the wonderful greenhouses which recreate the different climates of our ecosystem… a pleasure for the eyes.
SKETCH
ENG: Welcome to one of the most famous tea rooms in the world, welcome to Sketch.
At the opening in 2002, The Telegraph defined Sketch “The most controversial club ever opened in the capital of the U.K” and the atmosphere is indeed surreal, the tea it’s an excuse to enjoy a new experience.
You will feel like being knocked into a parallel universe, between Wes Anderson’s and Stanley Kubric’s movies and some futuristic touches… probably this was in the mind of India Mahdavi, the designer in charge of the interiors.
We spent a few hours in the gorgeous Gallery, completely furnished in pink, elegant and romantic. Also the food was pink, from caviar to quiches to a delicious selection of cakes.
Sketch is a sensory experience, from food, to colors, to sounds, everything is aesthetically perfect and has to be felt from our 5 senses.
A real treat that I suggest to try at least once in your life… reservation is mandatory.
SKY GARDEN
ENG: We went in the deepest part of the City of London, straight to the 37° floor of the walkie-talkie, new generation skyscraper, up to the Sky Garden, the highest rooftop garden in Europe.
The space is open to everyone and designed to spend some free time… imagine to drink a coffee with your friends with this beautiful panorama!
The building is a combination of steel and glass from the walls to the ceiling and it gives a breathtaking view on the Thames and the City of London, since the skyscraper soars upon Tower Bridge and the Tower of London.
CAMPARI BAR
ENG: It’s not everyday that you can be guest of the Campari group right in their headquarters, inside the prestigious Shard, 27° floor. Here we had an intresting chat with the guys of the team, of course drinking a delicious cocktail which was prepared from capable hands.
The informal atmosphere and the sometimes industrial design, with the iconic Campari’s signs, create a smart and stylish workplace, where it’s a pleasure to share ideas and new projects.
